Idle Dice: how one Roll button turns into a prestige loop

Idle Dice starts with one die and a Roll button. Roll a 1, you get 1 point; roll a 2, you get 2. Ten points buys the first level on that die, and from then on every level multiplies what the die is worth. The second die costs 100, the third 1,000, up to five main dice at 100,000 — and once two dice can land the same number, combos appear: a pair, two pair, a triplet, a straight, a full house, four of a kind. Each combo has its own multiplier on the left-hand menu that you upgrade like the dice.

The game opens up in layers. At level 100 a die can be ascended: it drops back to level 1 but every point it scores from then on is multiplied by 100, and each ascension adds a step of progress toward a card draw, where you pick one of three random cards with bonuses like a 10x multiplier on the first die or a shorter auto-roll interval. Later come multiplier dice under the main row (their roll multiplies the whole score), a roulette that pays out chips, a slot machine, skill points, a prestige that trades the run for a permanent percentage on every die, and finally converting a full 52-card deck into a golden card for luck. Luts91 released it on Kongregate in 2019; the build on idledice.org is his own web version, served from this domain.

Getting past the first hour

  1. Level the first die to 10 before buying the second: The tutorial says so for a reason: the die's level multiplies its roll, and a fresh second die starts at level 1 scoring little more than its raw roll. Ten levels on die one cost less than the second die and pay out immediately; buy the second die once the first is earning.
  2. Ascend as soon as a die hits 100: The reset looks like a loss, but it is not: before ascending, a level added 1 to the die's multiplier; after it, every level adds 100, and after a second ascension 10,000. Levels cost more on an ascended die, so ascend right after you have bought what you were saving for, not right before — and never sit on level 100, because each ascension also fills part of the card bar.
  3. Take the auto-roll cards first: When a draw offers 'Autoroll interval x50%', take it over a single-die multiplier. Faster rolls scale everything — combos, chips, card progress — while a die multiplier only helps one column.
  4. Leave the tab open, or come back within 8 hours: Offline gains are capped at 8 hours (the game tells you what you earned when you return). If you can keep the tab open in the background, the roll loop keeps running at full speed instead.

Key features

  • Real dice combos: Pairs, two pair, triplets, straights, full houses and four of a kind each carry their own upgradable multiplier, so rolling more dice is not just more points but more combos.
  • Ascension and a 52-card deck: Each ascension brings card progress; when the bar fills you pick one of three. Cards can be gilded into golden versions that raise your luck, and a complete deck converts into a golden card for the next run.
  • Roulette, slots and skills: Later systems feed back into the dice: chips from the roulette multiply points, the slot machine fills a layout, and skill points buy passive upgrades you can refund with P.
  • Saves in your browser: Progress is stored locally with an Export / Import option in Settings, and up to 8 hours of offline gains are paid out when you come back.

Pro tip: The Buy toggle is the fastest way to lose points early. 'max' spends everything on the die you click, which is fine once you have five dice, but in the first minutes it leaves you unable to afford the second die for a long stretch. Keep it on 1 or 10 until every main die is bought, then switch to max. The same goes for the multiplier dice under the main row: their roll multiplies your whole score, so a second multiplier die beats another ten levels on a main die.

Frequently asked questions

What is Idle Dice?

An incremental game by Luts91 where the numbers you roll are your points. You level dice up, buy more of them, land combos, ascend dice at level 100 for permanent multipliers, draw cards, spin a roulette and eventually prestige for a faster next run.

Is this the real Idle Dice?

Yes. It is Luts91's own web build (version 1.3.335, the same one that ran on his site and on Kongregate), hosted on idledice.org. It plays in the page with nothing to install.

Does my progress save?

Yes, in your browser's local storage on this site. Settings has Export and Import so you can copy the save as text and move it to another computer. Clearing site data or using a different browser starts a new game.

What does ascending a die do?

A die at level 100 can be ascended: it goes back to level 1 but gets a permanent 100x multiplier, and you gain one step of progress toward the next card draw. Ascend every time a die reaches 100.

Does it work on a Chromebook?

Yes. It is an HTML5 game with light graphics; if it stutters, Settings has a WebGL switch (turn it off and restart the game) and an engineering-notation option for the big numbers.

Do the Duels or cloud save work?

No. Duels and cloud save talk to the developer's own server, which is no longer online, so those buttons do nothing here. Everything else — dice, cards, roulette, slots, skills, prestige — runs entirely in your browser.
